Product Description
If you love sports, and if your prayer life goes somewhat beyond those divine treaties for a base runner in the bottom of the ninth, here is a book written just for you. "Pardon the Inspiration" (an obvious play off the popular ESPN television show, "Pardon the Interruption"), is a collection of essays written by high school coach-turned-preacher, Al Sturgeon. Sturgeon’s knowledge of the world of sports will be obvious to fans, but his ability to talk that language and then relate those stories to valuable lessons of life should make this book a grand slam. The book offers fifty-two essays spanning the weeks of the year, with the essays divided into the four calendar seasons. Beginning with the introduction of spring, Sturgeon takes us on a journey of life from the warm sun of Spring Training to the wintry climax of the Super Bowl. And along the way, readers will find themselves laughing, crying, remembering, and – most importantly -- pausing to consider the lessons of life. Also proving popular with sports fans, each of the fifty-two essays is prefaced by a challenging sports trivia question such as, "What is the record for the oldest person to score a hole-in-one?" and "What uniform number did Ty Cobb wear?" that will keep the avid sports fan turning the pages. Sturgeon offers his personal stories from his years as a sports participant and fan with his entertaining self-deprecating style, as well as well-researched essays concerning some of the biggest names in sports that makes this book relate in some way to sports fans of all ages. It should prove to be a popular Father’s Day gift as well as a Christmas stocking stuffer. At the book’s end, "Pardon the Inspiration," offers a personal testimony written just for this book from baseball hall-of-fame member, George Kell. Kell, who is now in his eighties, looks over his life that included fourteen years in the major leagues and thirty-eight years as a broadcaster and brings the book to a fitting conclusion by summing up life as he now sees it looking back. "Pardon the Inspiration" proves to be a book that can help sports fans live that sort of life looking forward.

Outstanding book for Christians who like sports

This is a great book, with lots of little life lessons. The author uses his passion for sports and Christianity help pass on some good old life lessons. He has it broken into 52 short stories, so that you could take one story each week for a year. My guess is that most readers will make it through within a week or two.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
